| In 1999 I took over a PORTAS franchise business from my father. He had set it up in 1976, after looking for an alternative source of revenue to make himself less dependent on window manufacture. Having been in the business for 15 years now, I can safely say that turnover and profit are terrific, and in a normal joinery business you can only dream of a 10 to 15% profit margin.
